Our second annual conference in 2016 focused on Design, Technology, and Social Impact was a great success! Our keynote spaeker, Boston City Councillor Ayanna Pressley, addressed the audience of scholars, practitioners, and city leaders with a charge to keep equity and inclusion at the forefront of civic media and design. With an almost tripled attendance from the year prior, participants chose from panels and workshops on the topics of Media Literacy, Systems and Advocacy, Inclusion and Engagement, and Civic Art. Read the highlights here! and stay tuned for upcoming events in the 2016-2017 academic year.

In January 2016, Boston Civic Media gathered 65 researchers and practitioners from over 24 different universities, community organizations, and government agencies in the Boston area to discuss the barriers, opportunities, and affordances of academic-community collaboration. The 3-hour event offered a variety of talks and case studies as well as interactive exercises and discussions for problem solving.
